Type of Ceremony
In Scotland there is a choice of a simple legal (civil) ceremony (by a registrar from the registry office in Inverness), a religious ceremony, or a Humanist ceremony. Humanist ceremonies allow you to design the ceremony as you wish and your vows can be personalised. With Humanist ceremonies you can also choose the celebrant who marries you. At Shiskine we can accommodate either civil or Humanist ceremonies.
For a civil wedding, you should contact our local registrar to make the arrangements for a celebrant to conduct the ceremony. You do not need to see them in person beforehand - they will bring all necessary paperwork with them on the day. Humanist weddings are legal in Scotland, including for same sex couples. Arranging the legal paperwork, booking and paying for the celebrant is your responsibility.

The registrars office is very helpful and can give you answers to any questions you may have, especially regarding documents, paperwork and fees.
You will be legally required to have 2 witnesses to your wedding. We will be very happy to act as witnesses for you if you so wish.
